Purring for Parliament: Shelter Cats Crash the Elections

Campaign, Ambient Advertising

During Latvia’s 2018 election season, political posters were everywhere — so we hijacked them. We replaced real politicians with real cats from Dzīvnieku Draugs animal shelter, recreating actual party posters and rewriting the headlines to fit each cat’s unique personality. One promised more naps, another stood for equal rights to cuddles. Each poster looked strikingly familiar — but with whiskers.

Launched with a press conference and pushed through social media, the campaign quickly caught fire. Our feline candidates earned coverage on three national TV news broadcasts and generated higher engagement online than many real political parties at the time.

The result? Massive awareness for the shelter, a boost in adoptions, and a Bronze at Baltic Best 2019 in Ambient Advertising. Proof that sometimes, the most electable candidates just want a warm lap — not your vote.
