#WorkingWithCancer INITIATIVE

1 in 3 employees with a serious illness fear telling their employer. Too few companies and their leaders are aware of this fact.

Our goal is to end stigma and insecurity for cancer patients in the workplace. Together, we aim to create a more open, supportive, and recovery-focused culture for all employees with cancer. Join us!

If you need support in implementing the program in Latvia, contact us, and we'll be happy to help.

5 possible support directions

Each company can create its unique plan. By assessing the individual situation, industry, and employees, you can agree on the best way to implement this support.

Corporate Policy and Benefits

The goal is to ensure that employees diagnosed with cancer or another serious chronic illness can fully focus on their necessary treatment.

Examples: additional benefits; critical illness insurance; flexible working hours; extra vacation; remote work opportunities.

Targeted Communication

Promote both internal and external communication. Inform employees about the available support options. Use external communication channels to raise awareness of the initiative among the public and other employers!

Examples: employee awareness plan; organizing Health Days to share information about the program; organizing panel discussions.

Community

Create a community and promote understanding and empathy for those affected by cancer or other serious illnesses.

Examples: invite courageous employees with experience to share their stories; training for managers and employees; psychologist-led sessions; creating internal support groups; involving mentors.

Coaching

Ensure that employees with serious illnesses have access to coaching support. A coach will help balance an appropriate workload with the treatment process and its associated challenges.

Example: individual sessions with a certified coach designed to help balance work with treatment and overcome the emotional trauma caused by cancer treatment.

Awareness

Encourage the signing and implementation of the initiative in other companies!

Examples: share that you are a participant in the initiative on your website, social media, and marketing materials; invite business partners to join the initiative; organize events dedicated to the initiative; donate to charities working with cancer or other serious illnesses.
